Antony Gormley statue at CrosbyIn June 2005, the sculptor Antony Gormley installed the first of 100 eerie cast iron figures on Crosby beach in Merseyside, each modelled on his own body. The late Guardian photographer Don McPhee was there to capture the moment. Dotted over a nearly two mile stretch of shoreline, the figures become by turns submerged and revealed by the ebb and flow of the tides.
